This series' 2016 figure covers the smaller, pre-2019 city; its 2022 figure covers the larger, post-2019 city. The change between them reflects the boundary redraw, not a real change in the population it describes — not a trend to compare year over year.
• Census years only, not a continuous series: This is CSO's actual Census of Population count, taken once every five years (2016, 2022 for this breakdown) — not a modelled annual estimate. No figure is published for any year in between, and this will not update again until the next census.
• Latest figure: 2022 — 4 years old: This dataset is published annual and the publisher hasn't released anything newer. Nothing is missing from this page.
