This is a pattern across areas, not a cause. It says nothing about any individual case.
- Counted where they happen, divided by who lives there: Collisions are recorded where they happen, but this rate divides by the people who live in the district. Central districts that many people travel into — the City of London, Westminster, and Kensington and Chelsea most of all — record far more collisions than their resident population alone would suggest, and they are also among the most expensive places to buy.
- Reported injury collisions only: The Department for Transport's STATS19 data records collisions on public roads that injured someone and were reported to the police. Damage-only collisions, and injury collisions never reported, are not counted.
- England and Wales only: HM Land Registry's Price Paid Data (the sale-price side of this comparison) covers England and Wales only. Scottish districts have a collision figure but no sale-price dot, so they are not shown here.
