Why the caveats matter

Every figure carries the publisher's own caveats. Where a statistic is published for a wider area than the one you clicked, or where the publisher itself flags it as unreliable, the page says so rather than quietly rounding it off.

The UK's four nations publish separately, so some figures stop at a border: house sale prices cover England and Wales, road collisions Great Britain, and pupil absence England only. An area with fewer datasets isn't missing data — its nation publishes that statistic through a different body.

  • England and Wales only: HM Land Registry's Price Paid Data covers England and Wales only. Scotland uses Registers of Scotland and Northern Ireland its own Land & Property Services register, neither included here -- this is the source's own real coverage, not a choice made by StatsMapped.
  • Last 8 quarters only: This series currently covers the most recent 8 quarters. HM Land Registry's own data runs back to 1995; a longer published history here is a real, separate follow-on, not yet built.
  • Small-area quarters not empirically filtered: A quarter is shown once a local authority records at least 10 transactions, a conservative placeholder rather than a threshold measured against this dataset's own distribution (unlike this site's other median-price series, which use an empirically measured floor). Treat a low-volume area's quarter-to-quarter moves with extra caution.
  • Prices paid, not valuations: Figures are the price actually paid, from HM Land Registry's own transaction records -- not a valuation or an asking price, and not adjusted for the mix of properties sold in a given quarter.
  • Open Government Licence: Contains HM Land Registry data (c) Crown copyright and database right 2026. This data is licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
