Why the caveats matter

Every figure carries the publisher's own caveats. Where a statistic is published for a wider area than the one you clicked, or where the publisher itself flags it as unreliable, the page says so rather than quietly rounding it off.

The UK's four nations publish separately, so some figures stop at a border: house sale prices cover England and Wales, road collisions Great Britain, and pupil absence England only. An area with fewer datasets isn't missing data — its nation publishes that statistic through a different body.

Collision
A recorded road traffic collision resulting in at least one injury, reported to the police under the STATS19 system -- damage-only collisions are not required to be reported and are not included. Source
Severity
DfT classes each collision as Fatal, Serious or Slight, based on the worst injury recorded. This figure combines all three.

  • Great Britain only: STATS19 covers England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland records road collisions through PSNI, a separate system not included here.
  • Unusually high compared with other areas: This figure is unusually high compared with other areas currently publishing this dataset — 2,307 against a typical figure (median) of about 213 across 349 other areas. Worth checking against the source before treating it as a straightforward comparison.
  • Unusually high in 2024: This area's 2024 figure is unusually high compared with what other areas reported for 2024 — 2,296 against a typical figure (median) of about 211 across 349 other areas that period.
